According to Sri Lankan Sunday Times, Sirisena decided to have a two-day state visit to India starting 16th of this month. After winning the presidency campaign, Indian prime minister Modi invited him to visit India during his congratulation call, Sirisena accepted the invitation and promise to visit within 100 days of him taking the office. Agence France Presse claimed on 4th that Modi had tweeted, “I am looking forward to president Sirisena’s visit this month. Our shared history, culture and value are unbreakable.” Agence France Presse analyzed that India was attempting to take the opportunity of Sirisena taking office and recover its relation with Sri Lanka, and Sri Lankan government was also eager to enhance its relation with India. January 18th, the 10-day-old new Sri Lankan government sent the new minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Samaraweera, to visit India.

On the 3rd, the 2015 “Happy Chinese New Year—Sino-Sri Lanka Gala” was hosted in Colombo by Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka, Chinese Enterprise Committee and Sri Lankan ground force. Sri Lankan president Sirisena expressed that the Sino-Sri Lankan relation was an all-weather friendship basing on mutual respect. The state visit President Xi Jinping paid last year to Sri Lanka deepened the strategic cooperation partnership between two countries, “I firmly believe that in the new year and all times within my presidency, the strategic cooperation partnership between our countries will be further enriched and deepened.”
