NEW DELHI, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -The death toll of Indian nationals in Thursday’s stampede near Mecca in Saudi Arabia has risen to 35 with the identification of more bodies, the country’s foreign minister has said.
“Unfortunately, there are six more Indians taking the toll to 35,” Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted Sunday evening.
The minister said that Indian Embassy officials have been providing all possible help to the bereaved families of the deceased pilgrims.
Some 1,000 Muslim pilgrims are said to have been killed in the stampede in Mina near Mecca, which is the second disaster to mar the Haj.
A massive construction crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque in Mecca days beforehand, killing 109 people, most of them pilgrims, including some Indian nationals.
