On January 22 forenoon, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Sun Weidong, and the Permanent Secretary of Economic Affairs of Pakistan,Tariq Ba Jiewa, signed an agreement in Islamabad for carrying out a pre-feasibility study on the Gwadar City Master Plan project.

The Agreement stipulates China’s readiness to undertake investigations related to the Pakistan’s Gwadar City Master Plan as part of the feasibility study project.  And Pakistan’s responsibility for providing basic information needed for the feasibility study, designating a special department or agency to work with the Chinese side and confirming/corroborating the investigations and technical information etc provided by China.

According to the introduction given by concerned persons in the Chinese Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Ofice in Pakistan, the Chinese side agreed to the Pakistani request to use the existing balance in the (budget for) Gwadar City planning project gratis, without additional charges, for implementation of this project in the interest of development assistance cooperation and to ensure conformity with the overall plan of the Gwadar City Economic Corridor and further promote common interests of, and political consensus between, China andPakistan.
