On May 23, India successfully launched a small version of the Space Launch Vehicle as a technology demonstrator. This is a smaller prototype of India’s future “Space Shuttle” and also the maiden test flight of India’s “highly indigenous” Reusable Launch Vehicle, which was hailed by the Indian media as a huge step in India’s space programme. This miniature “Space Shuttle” is 6.5 metres in length, weighing 1.75 ton, with a manufacturing cost of Rs.950 million (approximately 92.25 million RMB). India is planning to launch the genuine version by around 2030, to achieve the objective of low cost space launches.
