Hon. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Information, Broadcasting & National Heritage
Honorable Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning, Development and Reform,
Hon. Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning!

I am pleased to attend the Seminar on the 65th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations. I feel honored that Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Minister Ashan Iqbal and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry could grace the Seminar. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests and friends from all walks of life for their long-term support of China-Pakistan relations.

Several days ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged congratulatory messages with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. Our leaders spoke highly of the great achievements in promoting all-weather friendship and all-around cooperation over the past 65 years and agreed to work together to build a brighter future of China-Pakistan relations.

In recent days, I have been overwhelmed with the warmth of China-Pakistan friendship. A series of activities have been held by both sides. They include colorful theatrical performances, art exhibitions and professional seminars. No matter whatever the forms of these activities, they all send out a very clear and strong message that China-Pakistan friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of our two peoples, and delivers tremendous benefits to our two nations and peoples.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today’s Seminar is of great significance since it takes the theme of celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan. Over the past 65 years, China-Pakistan relations have gone through the test of time and set an example for state-to-state relations. Many wonder how China and Pakistan became the unparallel Iron Brothers and how could the two countries get along with each other so well? In my opinion, the achievements of our bilateral relations could be attributed to the following reasons.

First, China-Pakistan relations highly value sincerity. Both countries always take China-Pakistan relations as the priority of its own diplomacy. We regard each other as equal partners and reliable friends. We always respect each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect each other’s choice of way of development in line with its own national conditions, and accommodate each other’s feelings and concerns.

Second, China-Pakistan relations attach great importance to affection. A friend in need is a friend indeed. We always extend helping hand to each other whenever in need. Pakistan rendered its support to China during China’s efforts to break the exterior blockade, resume legal representation at UN, normalize China-US relations and provided relief during Wenchuan earthquake, etc. China always provides support and assistance for Pakistan to promote economic and social development, safeguard national security, overcome natural disasters, etc.

Third, China-Pakistan relations highlight justice. Both countries have maintained close coordination and collaboration on major international and regional issues. We always uphold justice and pursue fairness, so as to safeguard the common interests of developing countries together and promote the world’s peace, stability and development.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The 65 years history of China-Pakistan relations has proved that state-to-state relations can only stand firm and go deep on the basis of equality, sincerity, mutual-benefit, mutual-support, people-orientation and win-win cooperation. Only by following these principles can state-to-state relations win the heartfelt support of our two peoples. This is the valuable experience drawn from China-Pakistan relations, which still remain full of vigor after 65 years of trials and tribulations.

At present, China-Pakistan relations have been promoted to all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. We are now standing at the new historical starting point and are faced with new opportunities and prospects. We should firmly set the future direction of bilateral relations and translate political advantages into driving forces for substantive cooperation. We should earnestly implement the consensus of our leaders to consolidate the basis of bilateral relations through substantive cooperation. We should advance the construction of CPEC to promote more in-depth and extensive substantive cooperation. We should maintain close people-to-people exchanges to win solid support from our peoples. We should strengthen coordination and cooperation on major international and regional issues to safeguard common interests of our two countries, and promote the peace, stability and common prosperity of the region and the world.

Ladies and gentlemen,

There is a poem that says “the strong pass and forts are like a wall of iron, yet with firm strides, we are conquering its summit”. On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, let’s work together with full confidence, to realize common dreams of national prosperity and people’s well-being, and build a better future for China-Pakistan community of shared destiny!

May I wish the Seminar full success!

Long live China-Pakistan friendship!
