KABUL, February 12, Xinhua (Reporter: Dai He): Afghan security forces have killed 10 Taliban militants in the north-eastern province of Badakhshan since February 11, Afghan officials said on Sunday.
Mr. Ahmed, a spokesman for the provincial government of Badakhshan, confirmed to the Xinhua News Agency that the security forces had recently carried out a crackdown on the Taliban militants who had been hiding in Jurm district of the province and successfully destroyed militant strongholds in the area, recapturing many villages in the region.
Mr. Ahmed said that 10 Taliban militants were killed in the crackdown, including a local Taliban commander and six foreign militants, while another 14 militants were injured in the crossfire.
According to another report by the local Hama News Agency quoting military sources, the crackdown did not cause any casualties among security forces personnel and the local people.
As on now, the Taliban has not commented on this.
