An item on the inauguration of the bridge connecting three islands in Maldives built by China.. Excerpts:

 

……The bridge spans the Indian Ocean’s Jurassic Strait and, in a first in the country’s history, realises the objective of forging land links between the capital island of  Male, Airport Island and Hulhumale Island, eliminating a long-term obstacle to economic development.

Yaming said that in order to alleviate the congestion in Male and develop the local economy, the Maldives is developing Hulu Malé Island and plans to develop the island into a modern city with a population of 240,000………….

…………..Alongside bringing real benefits to the Maldivian people, the China-Malaysia Friendship Bridge also fully demonstrates China’s infrastructure strength. The bridge built by China Communications Construction Second Navigation Bureau has a total length of 2,000 meters, of which the cross-sea bridge is 1390 meters long and is a six-span laminated hybrid beam V-shaped steel bridge. The design life of the bridge is 100 years, and the construction adopts Chinese standards, Chinese specifications, Chinese technology and Chinese management.

Wang Xiaotao, representative of the Chinese government and Director of the National Development Cooperation Agency, said that as a sincere and credible partner of the Maldivian side, China will cooperate with the Maldivian side under the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative, develop opportunities and accomplish common prosperity.
