The item contradicts a Times of India report of September 2, 2018, which mentioned that the Ambassadors of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Maldives did not attend the inaugural ceremony of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge in Male because their cars were stopped ahead of the venue by the Maldives’ security staff and they were asked to walk down from there, whereas the Chinese Ambassador’s car was allowed to proceed till the last point (and was, in fact, the only one to be so allowed).

The item claims that the Global Times reporter in Male was told by a Chinese Embassy official that the Chinese Ambassador did not use his car at all that day, but walked down to the function, as the venue of the opening ceremony was very close to the Embassy.

It also dismissed speculation of a boycott of the function by the Ambassadors of these three countries (India , Bangladesh and Sri Lanka), citing their presence at the Bridge, along with 10 other envoys in Male on July 30th.
