Beijing, November 23rd On the afternoon of November 23rd, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, agreed to an urgent telephonic appointment with Pakistani Foreign Minister, Qureshi.
Qureshi reported on the attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi and the (results of) preliminary investigation by Pakistan. He said that the Pakistani government and all sections of society severely condemn the violent attack by terrorists. The Pakistani government and people are determined to stand with their Chinese friends. The Pakistani side will do conduct a thorough investigation, ensure that all necessary measures will be taken and do its utmost to eliminate the terrorist forces. The friendship between Pakistan and China is unique and precious. The Pakistani side will protect the safety of Chinese friends in Pakistan just like it protects its own citizens.
Wang Yi said that Qureshi’s urgent briefing reflected the unshakeable friendship and mutual trust between the two countries. The Chinese side expressed shock at the armed attack on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi and strongly condemned this atrocity against a diplomatic Mission. The Pakistani police took prompt and decisive action to protect the safety of the Consulate staff. The Chinese side expressed its gratitude for this and deep condolences over the loss of lives of Pakistani security personnel.
Wang Yi asked (Translator: could even be translated as ‘asked’ or ‘demanded’) for high level attention of the Pakistani side to this incident and that it conduct a thorough investigation to resolutely prevent recurrence of such incidents. Wang Yi stressed that no attempt to undermine China-Pakistan friendship can succeed, and that the Pakistani side can definitely maintain domestic security and stability.
