The Ambassador to India, Luo Zhaohui and his wife, Dr. Jiang Yili, led a “Happy Spring Festival” literary group to visit Bhutan from January 29 to 31, 2019, . During the period, he met the fifth king of Bhutan, Jigme Kaiser Namyel Wangchuck, the fourth king of Jigme Singh Wangchuck, the Prime Minister, Lotta Zelin, the Foreign Minister. Dandy Dorjei, Foreign Secretary, Sonam Chong and others.

Ambassador Luo conveyed cordial New Year greetings of the Chinese leaders to the leaders of Bhutan. He thanked the Royal family of Bhutan for its contribution to promoting friendly cooperation between the two countries over the years and felicitated them on assumption of office of the new Government of Bhutan and the smooth transition of political power. Ambassador Luo said that China attaches great importance to China-Bhutan relations and is willing to maintain contact with the new Government, and work together with it to deepen practical cooperation, expand humanitarian exchanges, promote border negotiations, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs and work for new developments in bilateral relations in the New Year.

Ambassador Luo noted that the Chinese New Year of the Pig falls on the same day as the Lunar New Year of the Bhutanese. This is a vivid manifestation of the exchange of knowledge between China and Bhutan. Let us celebrate the New Year for a blessed future.

The King of Bhutan and Government leaders requested Ambassador Luo to convey their sincere greetings and New Year good wishes to Chinese leaders, and thanked the Chinese “Happy Spring Festival” literary and art group for visiting Bhutan in the New Year. It indicates that although Bhutan has not yet established diplomatic relations with China, it regards China as an important direction in its foreign exchanges.  All work was progressing smoothly after the establishment of the new Government in Bhutan. Bhutan is willing to continue to adhere to the one-China policy, strengthen practical cooperation with China in various fields, resolve border issues through friendly consultations, and let the cooperation between the two sides benefit more people.

During the visit, Ambassador Luo accompanied Royal family members, religious elders, the Speaker, the Foreign Minister and several Bhutanese Cabinet Ministers to watch a performance of the “Happy Spring Festival” by the Inner Mongolian Culture and Art Troupe. Ambassador Luo also met the World Bank’s Representative in Bhutan, Ishihara Ibaro, and the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan, Chowdhury, to exchange views on issues of common concern.
