On February 27, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met Indian Foreign Minister, Swaraj, who was in Wuzhen, Zhejiang to attend a meeting with the Chinese and Russian Foreign Ministers.

Wang Yi said that China has always placed China-India relations at an important position in neighborhood diplomacy. Last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi successfully held an informal meeting in Wuhan, leading to the new stage of mature and stable development of China-India relations. The cooperation between the two countries in various fields has been carried out smoothly, and the expectations of all sections of society and the international community on Sino-Indian relations have been raised. In the new year, the two sides should implement the important consensus of the leaders, prepare for high-level exchanges between the two countries, plan commemorative activities for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, deepen the potential for pragmatic cooperation, create cultural exchange highlight points  and properly manage differences to promote Sino-Indian relations in a stable and far-reaching manner.

Wang Yi pointed out that China opposes all forms of terrorism. We are concerned about the current tension in South Asia. As a common friend of India and Pakistan, China hopes that both sides will exercise restraint and avoid escalation.  It is expected that the two sides will ascertain the truth of the incident through dialogue and jointly safeguard regional peace.

Swaraj said that Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping held an informal meeting in Wuhan last year to promote accelerated development of bilateral relations. The two sides should work together to implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication, deepen pragmatic cooperation, strengthen humanitarian exchanges, plan for commemoration of the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year, jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas and promote the stable development and forward movement of India-China relations.  The Indian side seeks solidarity and cooperation from the international community to jointly fight terrorism and will deal with relevant issues with a responsible and restrained attitude.
