On the 27th, State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met Indian Foreign Minister, Swaraj, who was here for the meeting with the Chinese and Russian Foreign Ministers, in Wuzhen, Zhejiang.

Wang Yi said that last year President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi successfully held an informal meeting in Wuhan, leading to the new stage of mature and stable development of China-India relations. In the new year, the two sides should implement the important consensus of the leaders and plan for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year for promotion of stability in Sino-Indian relations. The Chinese side is concerned about the current tensions in South Asia and hopes that India and Pakistan will exercise restraint and ascertain the facts pertaining to the incident through dialogue.

Swaraj said that the two sides should work together to maintain peace and security in the border areas and promote stable development of India-China relations. The Indian side will handle the relevant issues in a responsible and restrained manner.
