An article by the Deputy Director of the China Studies Center of the National University of Science and Technology of Pakistan, a former Counsellor in the Pakistani Embassy in China,. (Translated by Feng Guochuan)
The article elaborates on the benefits to Pakistan from the CPEC, which it terms a “game-changer”, in terms of making good Pakistan’s deficiencies in railways, power (additional 10,000 MW of capacity), IT (fiber optic cabling to reduce reliance on underwater sea cabling), highways and other transport infra-structure in particular. It notes that half of the 22 projects under the project have been completed, raising Pakistan’s growth rate. And that the next phase would be establishment of SEZs and other (domestic) projects in the fields of agriculture and industry of direct benefit to Pakistan of investment inflows of 400-500 million US dollars were under negotiation.
It concludes on the following note:
“Since the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Pakistan’s GDP growth rate has increased from 4.4% to 5.7%, which is a huge leap for Pakistan. In the past 40 years, a number of complicating factors have restricted Pakistan. Now the Pakistani people are benefiting from the impact of the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.” We should understand the intention of Western media,; their negative reports are not based on facts and so we should refuse to accept such motivated propaganda. Geopolitics is changing rapidly, and China-Pakistan friendship is extremely valuable. The two countries are strategic partners and a community of shared destiny. All attempts to create a wedge or misunderstanding between them are doomed to fail.”
