Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the latest heads of state to have visited Xi’an. Modi began his first trip to China since assuming office in the former capital on May 14 last year.

During his tour of the city, Prime Minister Modi visited the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Park for a private tour of the Terracotta Warriors – relics of China’s first dynasty, the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). Modi then visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Ci’en Temple, the site where Buddhist monk Xuanzang translated scriptures after an epic 17-year journey to India.
