PHNOM PENH, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — Speaker of Bhutanese National Assembly Jigme Zangpo suggested Tuesday that the Bhutanese and Cambodian parliaments create cooperation to promote bilateral ties, a Cambodian spokesman said.
Zangpo made the request during a meeting with Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin.
“He proposed (to Samdech Heng Samrin) for cooperation between the Bhutanese National Assembly and the Cambodian National Assembly, so the Bhutanese National Assembly can learn good experience from Cambodia,” Keo Piseth, a spokesman for Heng Samrin, told reporters after the meeting.
Heng Samrin said although Cambodia and Bhutan had not yet established diplomatic relations, the Cambodian parliament was pleased to cooperate with the Bhutanese’s in regional and international parliamentary forums.
Zangpo is in Cambodia for the first Executive Council meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), to be held on Monday.
