Mr. Ma Zhanwu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, met with Ms. Chaitali Das, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Calcutta Millennium on 16 October 216 to discuss the participation of the Consulate in the computer skills training program for women from the underprivileged groups. Deputy Consul General Cai Zhifeng as well as Mr. Ajay Agarwal, Club Trainer, and Dr. Jonaki Mukherjee, Literacy Chairperson of the Club, were present.

Mr. Ma said that China-India relations have entered a new epoch featuring fast growth of exchanges and cooperation between the two great nations in various fields, and his Consulate would like to further enhance the friendship between the Chinese and Indian peoples and strengthen the basis of the bilateral relationship by contributing to the social work at the grass-root level here in Kolkata.

Ms. Das told the Consul General that with the progress in India’s economic and social development, personalities from all walks of life are giving more and more attention to the underprivileged groups, especially the skills training of the women and the education for the children in the groups. She appreciated the assistance from the Chinese Consulate General and believed that the efforts by Mr. Ma and his colleagues will win more friends for them in India.

Ms. Das showed Mr. Ma around the hall to be used as the computer skills training center, and took him to the New Horizon Center in a nearby slum area, where they received warm welcome from the children there.
